Cahaba Inspired

Thankful to receive recognition with the Excellence in Photography award for the Cahaba Inspired Juried Show.

A couple years back, my husband and I took the dogs to the beautiful Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge located in West Blocton. I was just getting back into shooting film pretty regularly and decided to take my camera. Thankful I did because shortly after we arrived and set up a nice spot on the shoreline, a family arrived with children. I found inspiration with the woman and all the children as she patiently guided them into the river. The woman was very nurturing yet radiated a strength about her that captivated me. I didn't think much about the image but I did know I felt something and when I normally feel something, I try to capture the moment when able.

I'm so thankful that the juror from the Birmingham Museum of Art felt the same and awarded this image 1st alternate in the photography category with the achievement of Excellence in Photography!

Cahaba Inspired is an art show that helps to bring awareness to others about the importance of the beautiful river and in a way, I do hope that this image will remind others the importance of getting out and appreciating nature.
